New Blind Spot Camera In Development For HGV Vehicles

A UK company is currently developing a new system that will solve blind spot problems for HGV vehicles. According to statistics from the Department for Transport there are more than 1000 accidents per year that involve lorries who have failed to see another vehicle on the road. Around two thirds of these incidents involve HGV vehicles moving into the right lane when overtaking.

This new system consists of four cameras placed at each corner of the vehicle. The cameras feed information back to the colour screen of the lorries navigation system for the drivers then to view. The system is therefore able to remove blind spots from the lorries of both left and right hand drive and is expected to be an innovative scheme.

With it still in development, the system has no confirmed pricing and it could be a further three years before it is available for retail. This blind spot camera could prove to be a vital piece of technology in the future. It could help to decrease truck and lorry accidents, in turn helping to reduce truck insurance claims.
